Erikson/UCMC Hospital Internships


2007

Five GPHAP students will be working within the University of Chicago Medical Center under the auspices of the Erikson Hospital Fellowship Endowment. This summer's students are:

Nathaniel Aushwitz, Graduate School of Business. Nate is interning with Principal Gifts for Medical Center Development. Nate will be working on proposals with the Director of Principal Gifts.

Tashia Ayala, School of Social Service Administration. Tashia's intership is with Transplant Surgery. She is perfoming policy analysis for JCAHO (Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations) and the new requirements of Conditions of Participation from CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services).

Ainoa Mayo, School of Social Service Administration. Ainoa is interning in Geriatrics as a research assistant in several research projects centered around studying informed consent and models of decision-making capacity in persons with dementia.

John Trombley, Harris School of Public Policy. John is interning in the Department of Surgery doing administrative work concerning the perioperative and ambulatory redesign iniatives, foreign faculty appointments, communications committee issues as well as working on updating departmental policies.

Geneva Dodson, School of Social Service Administration. Geneva is working for the Section of Infectious Disease in the Department of Medicine, in development for the HIV program. She is working to bring in funding for various initiatives the section is trying to roll out and working to develop and expand the focus of various initiatives within the section.


2006

Five GPHAP students will be working within the University of Chicago Hospitals under the auspices of the Erikson Hospital Fellowship Endowment. This summer's students are:

Andres Arias, Harris School of Public Policy. Andres' intership is with the vice-Presidency of Infrastructure, Design and Construction. He will be assisting the Executive Director on the new hospital pavilion project.

Beth McDowell, School of Social Service Administration, is interning in Emergency Medicine. Beth will be working on a health access survey, a study evaluating profession interactions between physicians and patients, and collaborating with the Center for Quality Improvement.

Jennifer Perfect, School of Social Service Administration is interning this summer in Emergency Medicine. Jennifer is assisting hospital social work staff on policy and issues in dealing with the chronically homeless.

Kevin Van Dyke, Harris School of Public Policy. Kevin is interning in the Section of Infectious Diseases. In addition to assisting in the daily business operations, Kevin's primary project is to create a development program for the section.

Alissa Woodworth, School of Social Service Administration, is interning in Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery. She is engaged with a wide variety of health care managment topics and issues, including independent study and evaluation of patient care processes.
