2007 Erikson Fellow to Present at American Geriatric Society Conference
During the summer of 2007, Ainoa Mayo was awarded the Erikson Fellowship to work with Dr. Daniel Brauner in Geriatrics at the University of Chicago Medical Center. During her time, she researched the triadic interaction between the clinician, a patient with dementia, and the patient’s surrogate. The focus of the research was to find evidence on how the patient’s decision making capacity is influenced by the degree of engagement and control that the surrogate has over the patient. The objective was to define the ideal degree of control and engagement the surrogate should have and that both control and engagement should be dependent on the severity of the dementia. The research continued as a Research Assistantship during the academic year.
Ainoa will be presenting her work during the American Geriatric Society Conference on May 1, 2008 in Washington D.C. Additionally, a paper is in preparation and will be submitted for possible publication in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society.
